Over 2,000 athletes and support staff will use YUYU’s Ice Recovery Tubes to stay cool and focused at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Sports medical teams and performance coaches will rely on YUYUs for their versatility, ease of use, and contribution to athlete welfare, as they maintain a controlled ‘cool’ surface temperature for long periods in extreme heat.
The YUYU can thermoregulate a surface temperature range of 8-15°C for over 2 hours, even in +30°C conditions. This allows athletes to cool down safely in either short intermittent bursts or extended periods, without causing vasoconstriction. Ice packs that are too cold can trigger this physiological response, narrowing blood vessels and reducing blood circulation.
Richard Yu, Founder and CEO of YUYU, says, "Under the eye of all the cameras and high expectations, the immense pressure athletes face can lead to muscle tightness and brain fog, resulting in below-par performance. We hope that the YUYU will help athletes feel safer and provide them with a greater opportunity to perform at their peak. The versatility of the YUYU allows for cooling around the neck, wrists, palms, or waist, reducing muscle fatigue and enhancing focus."
In a recent UEFA-funded research paper examining how athletes perform in extreme heat conditions, Professor Rob Duffield, a renowned expert in Sport and Exercise from Australia’s UTS, found that players using the YUYU reported a 60% larger cooling response. The findings suggest YUYU Ice Tubes reduce heat perception and enhance post-match comfort.
“Players rated their experience using the YUYU post-match in the heat at a high level of satisfaction. This suggests that the YUYU Ice Tubes are well-liked by athletes, further supporting their effectiveness and usability in extreme heat conditions.”
Luc Schout, Netherlands Team Physiotherapist, shares, "We always used ice towels to cool the athletes. It cost a lot of time to make, and the efficiency is very low. In hot temperatures, the ice melts very quickly. With the YUYU products, it’s the opposite. You can prepare the sleeves beforehand because they stay cool for a long time.”

With some predicting the highest temperatures on record for the upcoming Games, the YUYU Ice Tubes' innovative design and proven effectiveness in extreme heat conditions make them a valuable tool for keeping athletes safe and performing at their peak.
