YUYU ICE Recovery: Cooling Formula One in Singapore’s Extreme Heat

When the Formula One calendar heads to Singapore it brings one of the most punishing challenges of the season. With cockpit temperatures soaring to 50 to 60°C, drivers face not only the physical strain of racing but also the intense effects of heat accumulation.

In a recent feature, BWT Alpine Formula One Team revealed some of the strategies they use to keep their drivers cool and sharp in these extreme conditions. Human Performance Manager David Thompson explained:

“We also use YUYU scarves to provide localised cooling, giving the driver a refreshing sensation just before climbing into the car and immediately after a session or race. This is paired with a chilled hydration mix to replenish fluids and electrolytes lost during on track running."

While the team referred to them as YUYU scarves, what they are using is the YUYU ICE Recovery, our long flexible ice bottle designed for targeted cooling. By wrapping the ICE Recovery around the body, drivers can extract heat from circulating blood and reduce thermal strain, helping to restore focus and comfort when it matters most.

Alpine are not alone. Other Formula One teams are also turning to the YUYU ICE Recovery as part of their preparation and recovery routines. Its ability to provide sustained portable cooling makes it an effective tool not only for elite motorsport but also for athletes and individuals training in hot and demanding environments.

From Formula One drivers to everyday athletes, YUYU ICE Recovery continues to prove its value as a performance and wellness innovation, helping the body handle the heat.
